Typewriter type size is defined by "pitch", or characters per inch. Most typewriters are either 12 pitch ("elite") or 10 pitch ("pica"). Large type typewriters were used for typing name cards at conventions, for the sight impaired, for elementary schools, and for typing speeches that had to be read from a lectern. Most typewriter companies offered various typefaces that could be special ordered for each model typewriter. The large type elements on this model are stuffed onto a regular-sized portable typewriter.
